Pic of the day – Volunteer Violet

This morning I was taking out the trash, and noticed some bluish spots
on a spread of pine needles I hadn’t swept up off of the concrete
before winter started. Pine needles turn a variety of colors, but blue
it not usually one of them. I had to take a closer look, and to my
surprise, it was a small spread of violets. I love violets! But …
this was over concrete. Where are they putting roots? How did they get
there? Normally, if anything else volunteered there, I’d pluck them
out and scrape up the mess of leaves and move it somewhere. I’m not
sure what to do about these.
